Hotel On Rivington, New York

I’m going to New York for a long weekend in a couple of weeks and as usual, I’ve been scouting around for a fun place to stay with good design.
The Hotel on Rivington had me at the floor to ceiling windows.

And how much do I love yellow?

I don’t know what these cotton-balls-on-steroids-looking things are but I [...]

Honest Scrap Award

I’ve been tagged by the very sweet Candace Rose (isn’t that the prettiest name?) to reveal 10 unknown facts about myself whereupon, I can claim the Honest Scrap Award. I love a good tag so here goes:
1. I’m vegetarian, well pescatarian, actually.
2. I have a graduate degree that I make no use of whatsoever, much to [...]

A Fantastic Look At Paris

This isn’t the type of thing I normally post but it does relate to Paris and I find it so inspiring.  You just have to see it!  Click for a larger view. It’s truly amazing and there was no Photoshop involved. Happy Monday!

Crazy Idea #?: A Makeover In White Leather?

While the reaction of you dog lovers out there may be to snuggle my little creatures, you’d be wise not do so. Oh, they look innocent enough but they are walking, snorting, shedding machines. Seriously, I don’t know how they’re not completely bald by now. This creates a housekeeping nightmare and I basically have the [...]

Awards And Thanks

I’m feeling so much blog love lately!  First, the Kreative Blogger Award from the globetrotting Shar from the very stylish new blog, A Life More Fabulous . . .

. . . then the One Lovely Blog Award from the adorable Tiina of LiviaConcept, another globetrotter who gives me a daily dose of Scandinavia that I love so [...]

My Organizing Prowess

You wouldn’t know it by the look of my workspace these days but I’m actually big on organization. Boxes, folders, bins, labels . . . they make me positively giddy. So I was really excited when Jen at the Haystack Needle started up a new series called Lost + Found where bloggers share their organization [...]

Yellow & Black

So let’s see, we’ve covered yellow, yellow & gray, yellow, gray & red, yellow & blue so I think it’s time for the classic combination of yellow and black.  Jessica pretty much has this covered but I just wanted to add these to the mix.

Aside from the color scheme, how fantastic is this space:

There’s Zebra Stripes Then There’s Zebra AND Stripes

I know there’s intense debate about the zebra rug and even though it’s totally ubiquitous now, I have to say I’m still pretty fond of it. Ours was a housewarming gift from my parents and my only wish is that they hadn’t spent so much on it. You can get these suckers for so much [...]

Drum Decor

Can someone please tell me what’s up with this drum? Remember this post with the same (or another?) drum? Is this the same house? Is it the same drum? How many of these drums are there? Where’s it going to turn up next? [Okay, I've re-read this post a few times and the word "drum" has now [...]

Summer Houses

I had been undecided between a cabin in the mountains and one on the water but I think because it’s summer, all I can think about is the water. There are spots in the Pacific Northwest that look just like this and I’m determined to find my own! At the very least, I’d like a view [...]

White & Dreamy

Some white loveliness to start off your week  . . . because I can never get enough of white bedrooms. Never!

And hey, I just moved this mirror over our bed too! I’ll take some photos for you this week.
And thank you all for your nice comments about the new site! If you do see any [...]

Welcome To My New (Blog) Home

Welcome to the new and improved From the Right Bank to the Left Coast blog! Please make yourselves comfortable and stay a while. You’ll see that the new site isn’t radically different from the old one but I do get to use my own header (which makes me so happy!) and slightly bigger photos.  I’ve [...]

Something (Kind Of) Big Is About To Happen

Just a quick post today to say that I’ve been hard at work on a little something. But I can’t tell you about it just yet. Then why the hell am I bringing it up? Because to quote the Pointer Sisters:
I’m so excited
And I just can’t hide it.
Barring any mishaps, all will be revealed tomorrow. [...]

Alfresco

With summer here, I think a lot of us are thinking about entertaining outside. We’re having our first outdoor dinner party of the season this weekend so I flipped through my files for some inspiration:

And we can’t forget Domino’s (sniff) greatest hits:

Twiggy (The Lamp, Not The Model)

Apparently it’s lamp day here at From the Right Bank. I first saw the Twiggy Floor Lamp a few months ago and instantly fell in love. But I moved along because I need another lamp like I need another pair of shoes which, if you haven’t seen my closet, is to say not at all. [...]

Does Anyone Know Who Makes This Lamp?

Because I want it, I want it, I want it!

That Room Looks Kind Of Familiar

I was browsing some favorite sites recently and came across this photo:

Aside from the different artwork, does it remind you at all of this:

Yup, my living room. Pretty much the same couch, rug and lamp. Even the pillows kind of look alike. The other room is more stylish but I think the resemblance is there. [...]

Sunrooms, Solariums, Conservatories, . . .

It’s Hooked on Fridays and I’m hooked on sunrooms. Also called conservatories, solariums, Florida rooms, porch enclosures . . . am I leaving anything out? They can be cute like this:

or this (although technically I don’t think this is really a sunroom but it has that vibe):

They can also be downright swanky like these:

or more [...]

Castles, Lodges, Glens and Lochs

(the setting for one of my favorite tv shows, Monarch of the Glen)
One of the things I miss most about living in Paris has nothing to do with Paris at all. It was the easy access to so many great places and not just in Europe but parts of Africa and the Middle East too. [...]

Very Uninteresting

(As a puppy. He’s much bigger now!)
I’ve been tagged by one of my recent blogging buddies, Lee, to tell you six uninteresting things that make me happy. Well, there were just so many that I had a hard time choosing just six! (I guess that’s a good thing, right? That there are so many things that [...]

Benjamin Noriega Ortiz

I realized the other day that I hadn’t written a post about Benjamin Noriega Ortiz and I couldn’t believe it because I kind of think of him as the king of white rooms – and you know how much I love a white room. This all white house in the Hamptons is my favorite of [...]

Lemonade Stand Award, Part 2

I’ve been remiss in passing on the Lemonade Stand Award, given to me last month by Sarah from Trixie’s Table. (Please forgive me, Sarah! I blame it on my travels.)  But better late than never, right?
So here are the rules:
1. Put the logo on your blog or post.2. Nominate 10 blogs that show gratitude or great attitude [...]

Window Seat Love

I’ve had a thing for window seats for the longest time. If I walk into a room and there is a window seat, I’m heading straight for it. It’s one of those things that are just impossible to resist. Just last week, Blair at Delight by Design posted some great window seats. Here are some more [...]

My House Tour on Rearranged Design

For as long as I can remember, I have loved peeking into other people’s homes. I always thought it was kind of weird until I realized that it was actually pretty normal for design-obsessed people. And as much as I love looking at inspirational images, what I love most is seeing how real people live. [...]

Parisian Views

The other pics I wanted to show you from my trip are the awesome views some of my friends have from their apartments. Here are a few of the best:

If you look hard at the last one, you can see the Eiffel Tower behind that tree . . .

Merci, Paris

This weekend I finally got around to downloading the photos from my trip. Don’t worry, I’m not going to subject you to a “Look what I did on my vacation” slideshow. (You can go to my Flickr stream for that! ) Instead, I wanted to show you my photos of Merci, one of the coolest [...]

The Haymarket Hotel

It’s been what? Weeks since I posted a yellow room? Well I can’t hold back any longer. I give you the Haymarket Hotel in London:

No, I’m not going to London any time soon but it’s just always on my radar because I fantasize about that being my next international move. At some point, you know. [...]

Today's Crush: Bono Mugs

I’ve been debating the purchase of these mugs for like ever. I really have no more room for any more mugs. But aren’t they so cute? I don’t know who I think I’m kidding – I know I’m going to get them so I should just do it, right?

Off The Wall

Some of you know we have a stone wall in our dining room and kitchen. (Background story here.) Basically, I hated it at first but then learned to peacefully co-exist with it. After several permutations, it currently looks like this:

Until now, I had been pretty happy with it – and the dining room as a [...]

June To Do List and May Recap

In May, I got to everything on my list – but only because I purposely put just 3 things on it(!)  Hey, I’m no dummy. There’s nothing like a short list to make you feel like you accomplished something.
MAY TO DO LIST
1. Finish fixing up the guest room.
2. Rearrange outdoor space.
3. Take donations [...]
