Guest Blogger: Charlie From Charlie’s Design Diary
This large industrial loft-style house, in Denmark, is home to a family of five. The house was built using wood, glass, raw concrete, metal and the latest in electronic technologies. The décor was kept minimal yet functional. The house was furnished with beautiful mid-century classics and contemporary accessories in bold colors and luxurious fabrics. One of my favorite details of this home is the stunning raw concrete wall and industrial wood and metal staircase.
In the living room, the green Niels Jorgen Haugesen sofa and classic Eames chair sit perfectly with the white shag carpet and Zap coffee table from Cassina.
The homeowner decided to leave the seams of the prefabricated concrete partition visible so that the wall does not look too finished. The multiple squares, on the concrete wall, are windows to adjacent rooms. The suspension-ceiling lamp is from Luceplan.
The kitchen opens to a double height dining room, which connects to the living room and patio via sliding glass doors. In the dining room you can find a hideout/fort built for the smallest members of the family under the staircase.
The kitchen is modern and simple with crisp white floating laminated cabinets. The golden slate tiles used on the floor were also used on the far wall and can be seen from the dining room. A simple modern U shaped table and stunning red leather Arne Jacobsen, Series 7 Chair sit on a red shag carpet.
Dark brown wenge-wood adds warmth to the bathroom. On the bathroom’s rear wall the sliding door mechanism of the linen closet is left visible to keep with the factory like feel. The bathroom counter and sinks are made from one solid slab of white Corian.
The white theme continues in the master bedroom with off-white bed linens and laminated white night-side tables. The Egg chair and sconces are Arne Jacobsen from Louis Poulsen.

Love this house…and what a lucky child to have such a stylish room AND a secret hiding place under the stairs. Charlie – fabulous guest post, even if you did stray from Finland to do it!
I really like the loft feel, and the fun colors they used. In this sort of home I would expect lots of white. The nook under the gorgeous staircase is ingenious.
Ok, so here is my wish list- incredible suspension lamp, dramatic windowed concrete wall, under-the-stairs nook, solid slab of white corian, sliding barn-style door, and lastly, custom name carpet. I'm not being overly greedy, am I? A girl's got needs afterall!

I love raw concrete in so many ways. I love the texture, the imperfections, the lines of the tools and molding process. I also – and most particularly – love the smell of concrete. Is that strange? It is one of the most pleasing smells on earth to me, right up there with new-mown grass and ozone during a rainshower.
