March To Do List and February Recap
(guardian.co.uk)
I don’t know how it happened but I managed to do everything on my February to do list with one giant exception. To recap:
1. Clean up the studio; hang artwork.
2. Decide how I want to reconfigure the closet.
3. Organize closet. (In progress and should be finished by this weekend.)
4. Hang artwork in dining room. (I’m [...]
Journal Pages
I’ve been a journal keeper for a long time and in addition to this blog, it’s another place to gather inspirational bits and pieces. I’ve been shy about sharing it online for some reason but I’m slowly getting over that. Here’s one page I posted on flickr a while back. More to come.
Wall of Fame
Somehow I ended up with like a million picture frames and a while back, I decided to either put them to use or toss them. I first gathered them all and sorted them by color. I then took all the silver ones and put photos from trips, wedding, etc. and hung them all in my [...]
From the Right Bank to Apartment Therapy
I was just browsing over at Apartment Therapy (one of my daily reads) and what did I see but my own house! They had contacted me about my kitchen window project but I had no idea they were interested in the rest of house so this was a total surprise! Thanks, AT! The whole post is here.
Feeling Kitschy
(marieclairemaison.com)
So far I haven’t had a lot of time to look for that weekend house. But I have been thinking a lot about it. One thing I know for certain is that I want it to be the complete opposite of our main house, meaning I want rustic, mismatched, quirky and simple. And as much as [...]
Your Opinion, Please
Mailing Letters Originally uploaded by Smithsonian Institution
While I was having my coffee this morning, I was reading my comments and visiting other blogs and I noticed that some bloggers email their replies rather than doing it through the comments. I actually prefer that because I don’t necessarily go back to a post to see if they [...]
The Stone Wall Gets a Little Fancy
In case you want to see where the new mirror ended up:
I think it was a good buy. Have a good weekend, all!
Random Bedroom Ideas that Don't Go Together
(livingetc.com)
I’m still working on my February to-do list and one of the things is to reconfigure my closet because I don’t have enough space to hang dresses in there. (I have a lot of dresses.) We’re thinking of raising the two hanging rails to give me more clearance but I think I’d just rather have [...]
Enter, Please
We have a small foyer/entry and because two doors open into it, there’s very little room to put any real furniture. I had looked around for a console or table of some sort but even the smallest ones were always too deep and would have gotten in the way of the doors. I had one [...]
Kitchen Window Project
We have this window in the kitchen above the sink which is nice and all but the view is kind of hideous. So I usually just keep the blinds closed but that means the kitchen doesn’t get any natural light. I had been planning on having the glass replaced with frosted glass at some point [...]
Favorite Paris Shops: Côté Bastide
Before moving to Paris, I had known Côté Bastide for their great bath products. But after walking into their shop, I discovered it’s a whole lifestyle. I sometimes fantasize about a vacation house in the French countryside and it would basically look like a Côté Bastide shop.
New York Hotel Design
My greatest passion – even before interior design – is travel. If I were to write one of those “Things I Can’t Live Without” lists, my passport and suitcase would be at the top. So naturally I’m really interested in hotel design. I just love a beautiful hotel. I’m heading back to New York next [...]
Mirrors, Mirrors On the Wall
The other thing I bought last weekend was this white Rococo-esque mirror. I definitely didn’t need another mirror and had no idea where I was going to put it but I have a thing for mirrors so here it is. I also have this white rectangular mirror which we hung in the guest room a [...]
Philippe Starck
As I was looking for photos for the last post, I got drawn into Philippe Starck’s website and was reminded of some of his past work and discovered some new ones. Here are some that are giving me lots of inspiration:
Paris Restaurant Interiors
(baccarat.fr)
I love the mix of contemporary pieces with very ornate ones that I found in a lot of Parisian restaurants in recent years. I think the Crystal Room at the Maison de Baccarat by Philippe Starck is to die for.
(lucascarton.com)
This is the private room at Senderens. I love the walls. (The food is divine too.)

And [...]
New Candelabra
There was a sample sale at the Seattle Design Center on Saturday and I picked up a couple of things, including a white candelabra. Then I saw this photo on Desire to Inspire with the same candelabra. I think whoever styled this photo and I are kindred spirits. I just love the combination of materials, textures [...]
Favorite Paris Shops: Habitat
(habitat.fr)
Another one of my go-to stores in Paris was Habitat. I just love it. (And I’m loving their current all white display!) It’s where I went for things like frames, kitchen utensils, shower curtains . . . practical things but that were designed and made well. I can’t think of an American equivalent so I [...]
The King of Color at Hôtel du Petit Moulin
(paris-hotel-petitmoulin.com)
I love fashion almost as much as interior design and one of my absolute favorite designers is Christian Lacroix. He made a big splash when he designed the rooms for the Hotel du Petit Moulin a few years ago and for this reason alone I’m tempted to stay there on our spring trip to Paris. [...]
Favorite Paris Shops: Blanc d'Ivoire
(blancdivoire.fr)
One of my favorite stores in Paris is Blanc d’Ivoire. It was my go-to shop whenever I needed linens or something for the table because I knew I’d always find something I liked, something very French. They have beautiful furniture as well. Before we moved, I had a list of stores that I had to [...]
Cabin Ideas: White Kitchens
This is what I have in mind for our cabin’s kitchen:

I already have the French cafe chairs and a round wooden table so all I need now is the kitchen . . .
Sometimes, I Can Actually Be Decisive.
I managed to get to Crate & Barrel this weekend for dinnerware. The set I wanted turned out to be on sale. Bonus! I had planned on getting only one bowl but both sizes looked useful so I got both.
Wherefore Art Thou, Orla?
(nytimes.com)
This is what I was hoping to do yesterday – stand around happily surrounded by my bounty of Orla Kiely stuff from Target. But it seems the debut date is February 15, not February 1, at least in some stores. The wait is KILLING me.
